Popliteus Tendon Pain

Popliteus is a small triangular muscle located at the back of your knee. It originates from your outer thigh bone (femur) and your meniscus and attaches to the back of your lower leg bone (tibia). Though it’s small in size, it has a huge role in knee function!

SYMPTOMS

  • This can be cause inflammation acute onset of pain

  • Pain in the back and outer areas of the knee.

  • Pain occur when straightening the knee.

  • Painful bending the knee against resistance.

  • Pain is usually worse when walking downstairs and running.

  • Internal rotation and the knee cannot be fully extended.

Theoretically speaking, popliteustendinopathy, also known as popliteus tendon tenosynovitis is a gap in the tendon of the popliteus. Popliteus is quite an uncommon pathology which often occurs in athletes and people with a history of other knee ligament injuries after trauma. It is a relatively unusual condition in non-athletes without a history of Knee traumas.
